Why I Started Coaching!
Hockey has always been a huge part of my life. The first time I put on skates I was 3 years old and it may have been the best thing my parents could have done for me.
I knew that someday I would no longer be playing and have to find another way to stay involved in the sport I love that gave me so much. I started volunteer coaching at my local youth association when I was 16, I immediately loved it! Working with young goalies and being able to see them smile while learning to play. I found the best way to give back just as others did for me. While playing at a high level it was hard to continue to coach during the season so instead I would coach all summer long to be able to become a better coach and also continue to give back.
After my career ended in Belgium unexpectedly I was not sure what to do, I knew I could get into coaching because it was something I loved and wanted to give back, however, I was now married and had responsibilities. I was very fortunate that I quickly got called by multiple AAA teams to coach, a few junior teams and even a day school that had a hockey class every day. This game has done wonders for me, it gave me a family, friends, memories, skills and values that I would not have learned elsewhere. I love being a goalie coach, from the way the goalies improve, from the interactions and the effect I have on helping them chase their dreams! I love what I do!
