Why do People Call Goalies Weird?

Let’s be honest most of the time they are right, we are a special bread.

“Goalies have to be weird they take pucks to the head for fun” NO, taking pucks to the head is not fun it is just part of our job unfortunately. The difference is we will do what it takes to make the save whereas players won’t put in that extra effort if they know the result isn’t pleasant. So yes we are special because were willing to do more, willing to go the extra mile and put our bodies in bad situations to help out the team. If that is a bad thing then I am fine with it because as a goalie your one job is to give your team a chance to win at all costs. When you make that save that i exactly what you are doing.

Yes, we may have a few quirks and superstitions that don’t help, I used to eat the exact same meal every game day for 3 years, and I had a 45-minute long pregame routine that had to be perfect if not I had to restart it, I wore the same suit and tie until I lost, I wouldn’t retape my stick until I lost no matter how bad the tape was. We all have little quirks but that doesn’t make us weird it makes us goalies, and guess what you may think you can’t live with us but you definitely can’t live without us because no team wins a championship without a top-notch goalie! YOU NEED US!

So goalies stay weird! Get even weirder and every single day show them that no matter how weird you are they need you to succeed! You need to continue to train and get better no matter how weird the training is. Goalie coaches are just as weird, I HAVE NOT CHANGED AT ALL!
